Hummingbird - Google Algorithm

On September 26th, Google announced about its new algorithm "Hummingbird". It was rolled out by Google about a month ago. The name "Hummingbird” is coming from "precise and fast". It helps Google to run their process in new and optimistically better ways.

The hummingbird is paying more attention on the meaning of each word in a query. It takes the whole sentence or conversation or meaning into the account and better focus on finding the right pages with matching words. For more details, visit here.

Google Search Engine Recap - June, 2013

Google Search Engine Recap: June, 2013

YouTube Capture: Videos Upload Upside Down

Jennie's response:

We're experiencing a temporary issue with YouTube Capture v.1.4 where videos shot with the record button on the left appear upside down. To fix this, you can rotate your video with YouTube Enhancements.

Google Knowledge Graph Adds Nutritional Information

Ilya Mezheritsky, a Google Product Manager, said:
This new nutritional information builds on our work on the Knowledge Graph, which brings together all kinds of information from across the web that wasn't easily accessible. The graph helps us connect things that are related, even in cases when those foods have a completely different sounding name from what you asked. For example, when you ask for “summer squash carbs”, we include “zucchini” as a relevant food in the dropdown, because it is a type of summer squash.

Google Maps Blue Dots Missing: User Contributed Photos

Daniel, a Google Maps representative, said:

We've been hearing this from other users as well, I'll be sure to pass it along to the team.

Google AdWords Now With Images: Image Ad Extensions

Google's product manager, Awaneesh Verma, said:
Today we're announcing the beta launch of image extensions, which will allow you to add new visual elements to your search ads. As the web evolves, Google users expect richer and more diverse content. More than one in six searches on Google today provide results with visual content. Image extensions will show in some cases when we determine that a search is likely for visual content.

Google Health Related Search Results, Can You Find Them?

Brent Nau spotted this and posted a screen shot on Google+, he said:
I have seen the Google SERPs for queries regarding health conditions and symptoms, but I have not seen where Google is actual scraping the authoritative sites and presenting the actual text at the top of the search results for "treatment" type keywords. (BTW - not suffering from IBS, client research!)

Google Kills ~Tilde Search Function

Dan from Google told Alex from GOS blog:
Yes, it’s been deprecated. Why? Because too few people were using it to make it worth the time, money, and energy to maintain. In truth, although I sometimes disagree with the operator changes, I happen to agree with this one. Maintaining ALL of the synonyms takes real time and costs us real money. Supporting this operator also increases the complexity of the code base. By dropping support for it we can free up a bunch of resources that can be used for other, more globally powerful changes.

How to Protect Your Content?

Protect Your Content
“Content Is King.” You are putting efforts and time to create an informative content. But you are not giving that much effort and time to protect your content from content thefts. They are simply copy and paste your content on their sites. Sometimes the stolen articles may get a higher ranking than the original. So that this times you need protection for your content.

Here there are some tips to protect your content,

1.) Place Copyright Notices and Watermarks:

Disable text selection on your content. So that content theft can’t copy the articles directly. Better you should place a copyright notice in the footer of your site or under the content. Add watermarks for your images and videos. Sometimes, they may not aware of these things.

Get Google Authorship from Google. It is a very useful tool for your content production and also you can’t get any duplicate content punishment from Google. Use your original name while you are submitting your articles for Google Authorship. And claim your articles separately if your site has multiple writers.

3.) How to cache and deal with thief:

Set Google Alerts: “Google Alerts” is a wonderful service from the Google. You can create 2-3 alerts per article. You can set your alerts on the content wherever you want, may be first paragraph or set randomly. It will alert you when somebody copies your content.

Prepare Evidence: Collect evidence like the original document, screen shots, published date and note the date, if your content indexed in Google.

Contact the Thief: Send a friendly email to them. If they remove the content, then the problem is solved. Otherwise, contact the hosting team to close their account.

Buying Links Doesn't Hurt???

If you are buying links from the link selling sites and Google knows that, What happened to your site?

Matt Cutts said,
  • The link seller's web site should notice a toolbar PageRank downgrade 30 - 50%.
  • The link seller's web site loses the ability to send PageRank going forward.
  • The links pointing to your web site from the link seller's web site are no longer counted and no longer benefit your web site.
From that we understand the links from the link selling sites do not pass benefit.
